Oh, Hello There!

It’s official. I’m admittedly the worst blogger of all time! I try, I really do! I think about you guys all the time. Usually at the most inappropriate moments such as driving down the road or at 3am when I’m trying to force myself to sleep. Sometimes in the shower. Well, you probably could’ve gone without knowing that last bit. I mean, it just sounds so dirty, but my point is that I remember “I need to post something for my blog friends” at the most inappropriate and inconvenient of times while being unable to conjure the thought when I have a spare moment of doing nothing. I vow to be better. I can’t promise I’ll be perfect, but you’ll love me for who I am, right? :)

On a side note, I’ve been busy with a lot of life changes. Got myself a BOYFRIEND (teehee) and moved 1,500 miles to a new city so I can be with him. I’m excited for a new adventure and looking forward to the prospect of new opportunities and new friends. In the process of my move, I purged almost everything I own (including my kajillion craft supplies), so it feels very refreshing to have a clean start. I’m rather looking forward to re-focusing on the things that are important to me without all of the additional fluff and clutter that sucked up so much of my energy.

With that said, I’m hoping to work on a super awesome tutorial to share with you guys. Is there anything you’re just DYING to learn how to make? Leave a suggestion in the comment section and I’ll consider your requests. I’ll leave you with warm thoughts and a pic of me and my new sweetie.

This photo was taken in January when I visited him before we were, ya know, “facebook official” and before I decided he was worth moving for.

12 Clever Uses for Duct Tape

I know you can fix just about any problem with a little duct tape and a spritz of Windex, but what about using duct tape for it’s aesthetic qualities rather than it’s functionality? I’ve searched Etsy for the most funky and beautiful duct tape creations. How do you like to use duct tape?

Where’s Christiana?

Some of you may be wondering why I haven’t posted over the last few months. Truth be told, I was on a bit of an unexpected hiatus. My personal life was busy to the point of being overwhelming. Between baby showers, graduations, birthdays, bridal showers, weddings, and various other events I simply haven’t had a spare moment! On top of all of this, I had to prepare and move to a new living situation with a new room mate and boy was it a lot of WORK! Sadly, Olympia Handmade suffered as a result of me over-committing myself when I should have been better about prioritizing. BUT, now I’m back and Olympia Handmade will be much more active! :)

I recently lost my job at the design firm I’ve worked for over the past 4 years. It’s sad, but I’m really excited about the opportunity to create handmade gifts and home decor full time! I’m pursuing the option of focusing on Olympia Handmade and building my business so that I don’t have to pursue other employment. I’m not sure how long this will last, but I’m jumping on the opportunity to focus on my handmade business before pursuing conventional employment. This means more blog posts, more tutorials, and more new products for you to enjoy! It also means I’ll be having a super special promotion soon to celebrate my choice to focus on Olympia Handmade full time! Be sure to subscribe to be the first to hear about news and special sales. :)

Paper Mache

I had some leftover balloons from a party and decided to do some paper mache. I forgot how much I enjoy it! I’ve always been intrigued by making beautiful things out of every day items and paper is no exception. I LOVE recycling my own paper. Generally, I make handmade paper for gift tags or lovely handmade journals, but paper mache is a nice change of pace. It’s so easy, too! All you need is a balloon, some flour, water, salt, and newspaper and you’re good to go! :) Right now, my project is in process because it takes a lot of time to dry between layers. I plan on wrapping it up this weekend and turning these paper newspaper balls into beautiful bowls and baskets. More photos coming soon!
